Winter landscaping case study

Latchmore Park Maintenance Services

Winter landscaping for busy sites is very important to keep everything neat, accessible, and safe. Being so close to Leeds United Grounds and passed through by thousands of people each day, keeping Latchmore Park in great condition is a top priority for the owners.

I. Calpin Facilities Services were more than happy to help! As many of the team are big fans, taking this contract on was a great chance to work closely with the football club to keep their surroundings as sharp as their footwork.

Litter picking is always the first job on the agenda when we arrive on site. After each match, the football club organise street cleans, which helps keep rubbish build up low. However, with wind-blown litter accumulating over the winter months, deep cleaning is required to keep the space free of unsightly litter.  By cutting back hedge bases, we can more easily access waste that has become stuck against the shrubbery and fencing.

As part of regular winter landscaping, our teams do a site-wide cut of all hedging and shrubs ready for new growth in the spring. This keeps them away from kerb edges and concrete, ensuring trip hazards are low and makes them unlikely to be damaged by wild winter weather.

Kerb cleaning to remove moss and silt helps to keep roads and walkways clear and accessible through the winter months. If left, this natural debris could freeze, becoming hazardous to walk on, as well as potentially damaging to the surface below.

In our most recent winter site clearance for Latchmore Park, we created huge piles of bagged litter and garden waste. Our team uncovered a wide range of abandoned items too, including old pallets and broken traffic cones. All this waste was loaded into our maintenance vans and taken away for sorting, recycling and disposal.

We’re looking forward to our next maintenance visit to Latchmore Park in the spring where we’ll see the plants back in leaf and get stuck into more landscaping management and grounds maintenance work.
