Raising the Bar – Ian Calpin Landscape Services, One Month in at Stirling Park, York
When Ian Calpin Landscape Services took on the grounds maintenance contract at Stirling Park, Clifton Moor, just one month in it was already clear that standards at the busy York business park had taken a significant step forward.
The SME landscape appointment, which began in summer 2024, quickly demonstrated what a difference attention to detail makes. Photographs taken just one month into the contract tell the story clearly – from sharply edged grass lines and properly swept kerbs to attractively maintained hedges and well-presented shrub beds, the transformation across the estate is noticeable.
Improvements delivered in that first month include:
- grass areas now cut with a proper mower fitted with sharp blades, producing a clean, professional finish across the front of the estate
- grass on the rear fire path areas – often overlooked by contractors – is being maintained to the same standard as the more visible areas
- kerb edges are swept clean of debris after every visit, something noted as never having been done consistently by the previous contractor despite being on the specification
- even the base of the estate signage has been washed down after strimming – a small touch, but one that reflects the team’s wider approach
- in the shrub beds, careful pruning is establishing clear separation between the shrubs and the trees above them, creating a structured, managed appearance that will improve with every visit
- grass areas throughout the estate have been properly edged to define clean lines and prevent encroachment onto footpaths – the kind of detail that makes a business park feel cared for and well-managed
It’s an early but telling indication of what a committed grounds maintenance team can deliver – and a strong foundation for the months ahead.
